Communicating a Need for Water System Improvement

Your utility needs your feedback, both positive and negative, in order to provide you with the best possible service. As a customer, your utility should give you an avenue for providing that feedback and voicing your concerns. Many utility providers solicit feedback on a regular basis through Customer Satisfaction Forms. If your local utility doesn’t currently solicit feedback, try printing out this example Customer Satisfaction Form and suggest that they make something similar available to your community.

If the problems with your water system are major and/or your utility has been unresponsive, you may have to gear up for a serious conversation with those in charge. Jump to the section on Crucial Conversations for guidance on communicating effectively in situations where stakes are high and emotions may be strong.
